Naturally, Kyoto is a great place to visit and there is a good reason it’s so popular; it’s many-faceted and beautiful in so many different ways! The spaces between the main attractions felt even more enjoyable and just as nice, since there was more time and peace to enjoy them.~
The Fushimi Inari Temple is probably Kyoto’s most well-known attraction and it is impressive even besides the many Tori gates — it is a huge area which is really well maintained and beautiful all around, and there are many fox statues to discover! (… but also some other live animals, as it turned out!)
One of the other very popular attractions is the Arashiyama bamboo grove, and while it is certainly impressive, it is unfortunately quite difficult to enjoy within the large crowds. I personally preferred its surrounding area more, namely the Katsura river and the Togetsukyo bridge, very picturesque with the many boats!
Another highlight was the Rashiyama monkey park, just in the area as well! While I’m not a big fan of zoos and such, these monkeys certainly had a large area for themselves to roam and a good amount of caregivers. There is also a little house with surprisingly nice and texture-rich wooden interior.~ (You had to go in to be able to feed the monkeys on the outside.)
We also made a short visit to its National Garden, which is also pretty and we were lucky to find some blossoming trees!
Kyoto also makes for some pleasant walks at night, though, with its many warm, soft lights! (Although we saw quite a few “dubious” “bars” as well.~)
